ABOUT THE GROWING STAGE…
The Growing Stage was co-founded in May 1994 by Artistic Director Dolly Stevens and Laurie Farnsworth, local costume designer and historian. We were incorporated as a 501c3 not-for-profit theatre company in November 1995. Early programming included basic acting classes for elementary and middle school aged children, performance workshops for young children and main stage productions for children and youth through high school ages. The first summer camp (1995) was held at The Old Stone School in Hillsboro, a two-week theatre and drama camp that served 65 children ages 8-12. Each summer the camp program has grown in attendance. Adults were added to the main stage productions, and we have successfully produced an average of 2 main stage shows per year, adding a large-cast, multi-generational musical “blockbuster” as a programming staple. We continue to add new programming as resources allow.
Our Goals….
- To develop performing opportunities in theatre arts for all ages.
- To present quality live entertainment to the Loudoun and surrounding communities.
- To educate the public in all aspects of theatrical arts through classes and workshops.
- To foster the development of original work from local playwrights and composers.
